The Importance of Lumbini:

Lumbini is a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the Rupandehi District of Nepal. It is the place where, according to Buddhist tradition, Queen Mayadevi gave birth to Prince Siddhartha Gautama in 563 BCE. Prince Siddhartha Gautama went onto attain Enlightenment sometime around 528 BCE, and became the Lord Gautama Buddha and upon whose teachings Buddhism was founded. Lumbini is one of many magnets for pilgrimage that sprang up in places pivotal to the life of Lord Gautama Buddha.

Lumbini has a number of temples, including the Mayadevi Temple and several others which are still under repairing. Many monuments, monasteries and a museum, the Lumbini International Research Institute, are also within the holy site. Also there is the Puskarini, or Holy Pond, where the Buddha's mother took the ritual dip prior to his birth and where he had his first bath.

Lumbini was made a World Heritage Site status by UNESCO in 1997.

After morning breakfast we will Tour Lumbini

At Lumbini we will be visiting the following places; The Maya Devi Temple complex, which contains the Maya Devi Temple, The Mayadevi Pond and the Bodhi Tree, The Marker Stone of the exact place of the Birth of Lord Buddha, The Ashoka Pillar, The Eternal Peace Flame, The Great Drigung Kagyud Lotus Spa and we can also visit the Burmese Lokamani Cula Pagoda and the Chinese Maitreya Temple.

After completing the Tour of Lumbini, we will check out from Hotel and transfer to Shravasti. Shravasti is at a distance of approximately of 228 Kilometers from Lumbini and we should cover this distance in approximately 5 to 6 hours.

Upon reaching Shravasti, we will check in to the hotel to retire for the Night.

The Maya Devi Temple/ The Marker Stone of the exact place of the Birth of Lord Buddha:

The Maya Devi Temple / The Marker Stone of the exact place of the Birth of Lord Buddha:The Maya Devi temple is said to be the exact place where Prince Siddharta Gautama, who became the Lord Buddha was born. There are drawings depicting his birth inside. The current whitewashed temple was built to protect the older temple under it. There's a small area looking down into dug out area covered with a glass panel with a stone marker under it marking the exact place where the Lord Buddha was born.

The Mayadevi Pond:

This is where legend says Maya devi bathed before giving birth to Lord Buddha. It has been properly renovated and is filled with turtles and no bathing is allowed.

The Bodhi Tree:

The Bodhi Tree is located right beside The Mayadevi Temple and Pond, it is highly regarded and decorated with many colorful prayer flags.

The-Ashoka-Pillar-Lumbini

The Ashoka Pillar:

The Ashoka Pillar is located in the Mayadevi Temple Complex and is of particular note as it is the oldest inscription found in Nepal and it also commemorates The Emperor Ashoka's visit to Lord Buddha's birthplace after he converted to Buddhism.

The-Eternal-Peace-Flame-Lumbini

The Eternal Peace Flame of Lumbini:

This Eternal Peace flame stupa is built in the Mayadevi Temple Complex.

The-Great-Dirgung-Kagyud-Lotus-Stupa-Lumbini

The Great Drigung Kagyud Lotus Spa:

This extravagant stupa is one of the most beautiful buildings here and was constructed by the German Tara Foundation. The domed ceiling of the main prayer room is covered in Buddhist murals.
